WHAT IS RISQS?
RISQS stand for Railway Supplier Qualification Scheme.
As defined on their website risqs.org "We are the single entry point for suppliers to the rail industry. Buyers of products and services throughout the GB rail industry use RISQS as its supplier qualification service. In short we help suppliers sell in to the GB rail industry by providing an open, fair and transparent way for them to be formally recognised as capable providers of products and services. This means we support Network Rail, Transport for London, passenger and freight operating companies, rolling stock organisations, main infrastructure contractors and many other buying organisations in the management of supply chain risk. The scheme embraces rail's qualification arrangements previously known as Link-up. RISQS is industry-owned, sponsored by a board of representatives from across the rail industry. This reports into the RSSB Board, and RSSB provides a range of services to support operational delivery of the scheme. This provides the industry ownership and governance of its supplier qualification arrangements. In December 2014, RSSB signed an agreement with Achilles Information Ltd, securing provision of audit services and access to the related IT platform for RISQS through to April 2017. By involving Achilles, industry is benefiting from their experience of running its predecessor, Link-up, for over 20 years."
WHAT IS SAFE CONTRACTOR APPROVED?
Alcumus SafeContractor is a third party accreditation scheme that assesses the health and safety arrangements, policies and qualifications of contractors. Many major clients recognise the scheme and accept the Safe Contractor certificate as confirmation of competency in health and safety practice. Under the Safe Contractor scheme, businesses under go a vetting process which examines health and safety procedures and their track record for safe practice.
Those companies meeting the high standard are included on a database, which is accessible to registered users only via a website. Client organisations who sign up to the scheme can access the database, enabling them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. These clients agree that, as users of the scheme, they will engage only those who have received accreditation. Over 300 major, nation-wide businesses, from several key sectors, have signed up to use the scheme when selecting contractors for services such as building, cleaning, maintenance, refurbishment or electrical and mechanical work.
WHAT IS IRATA?
What is IRATA? IRATA defines its standards on its website irata.org as...
"The Industrial Rope Access Trade Association (IRATA International) includes within its membership operating companies who employ the technicians who have learned their skills from the training companies of the Association. Unlike many trade associations it is not dominated and therefore influenced purely by manufacturers from its business sector. The teaching of the IRATA syllabus enables rope access technicians to progress through three Levels of proficiency, with certification issued at each level. The IRATA technician carries a card that is recognized and admired around the world for its importance and value; over 70000 IRATA technicians have been registered in over fifty countries and in every continent. The thorough, dedicated IRATA training programme delivers a skilled workforce that can reliably employ a proven work-at-height method."
WHAT IS NPTC?
What is NPTC? On their website nptc.org.uk describe these qualifications as follows
"We design relevant vocational qualifications to be delivered through training providers, colleges and employers that help learners gain the skills employers’ value Our qualifications are especially valued by employers because they are developed in conjunction with key industry bodies. Our qualifications are designed for learners – they’re flexible and easy to balance with a working life. City & Guilds is the biggest name in UK Vocational Education with 2 million learners working towards one of our qualifications every year. Expertise in creating qualifications in the land-based sector City & Guilds Land Based Services (formerly NPTC) is the UK's largest awarding body in the land-based sector - encompassing agriculture, horticulture, forestry, animal care, conservation, machinery and more. Relevant qualifications at all levels City & Guilds Land Based Services creates qualifications that reflect the industry's needs, working closely with Lantra, the Sector Skills Council for landbased training and education. Many give workers vital licences to practice in their industry."
WHAT IS SSIP?
The Safety Schemes in Procurement website describes this accreditation as... "SSIP is actively reducing health and safety assessment costs and bureaucracy in the supply chain, by making cross-recognition between member schemes as effective as possible, and highlighting the savings to buyers and suppliers. All SSIP member schemes have fully committed to the vision of driving unnecessary cost and confusion out of supplier health and safety assessment, and SSIP's core philosophy is to enable effective cross-recognition between existing schemes.
Furthermore the SSIP Core Criteria for assessments is aligned to the Government-backed construction pre-qualification document PAS 91, ensuring consistency within supply chain management.
The SSIP web portal is free to access and provides an easy way of finding out if a supplier holds valid certification with an SSIP member scheme and confirms compliance with the SSIP Core Criteria and UK H&S Legislation."
